The SUP720 consists of the supervisor engine and an MSFC3 daughterboard. The MSFC3 holds both the bootflash and the DRAM for the supervisor and MSFC3.

Starting in May 2005, Cisco increased the default bootflash memory on the Supervisor from 64MB to 512MB (but not the MSFC3).

As of today, we understand the default memory to be:

Supervisor Bootflash: 512MB Part #: MEM-C6K-CPTFL512M (Requires: CF-ADAPTER-SP)

When talking to customers we are surprised to see how many of them beilieve that simply having a smartnet contract allows you to download and install any software upgrades, including features, free of charge. This is simply not true. In this case, the EMI software is a software feature and not a software version upgrade.

To upgrade the features on the Cisco WS-C3750-24PS-S to EMI, you must purchase the following part number(s):

CD-3750-EMI Enhanced Multilayer Image upgrade for 3750 FE models - List Price$1,995
CD-3750G-EMI Enhanced Multilayer Image upgrade for 24-port 3750 GE models - $3,995

As with any Cisco parts, Teksavers has these available to you at a significant cost savings off of list price.

Today we had a network consultant call up and explain to us that he had been looking for used Cisco equipment buyers. He explained to us that he runs into excess equipment quite regularly as he is responsible for de-installing old equipment and replacing it with new gear.
He went on to explain that many times his customers would just end up storing the old equipment in a storage closet or simply dispose of it. He came upon the Teksavers web site by searching for "sell used cisco" on Google. Over the last 5 years, Teksavers has worked with many consultants who have found that selling their used Cisco equipment was a welcome solution not only for them but for their clients.

Teksavers buys over 1 million dollars in used Cisco on a monthly basis. If you have Cisco equipment that you would like to turn into cash, you can submit a "Request for Offer". A purchasing representative will provide you with an offer on a very timely basis.

Cisco would like for you to think that they will not support equipment that they don’t actually sell to you. This is something that they would like for you to believe and it is a tactic they use to persuade buyers of Cisco gear to buy from them only.
The fact is there is a tremendous amount of Cisco gear that is used and reconditioned that is in like new operating condition. This would be like Cisco saying their gear is only good when it sits on their shelf waiting to be sold and then is not in good condition the second it leaves the showroom floor. About the only thing that really changes once it leaves the showroom is that it drops in price considerably. Used Cisco gear can be purchased in like new operating condition anywhere from 60% to 90% off of Cisco’s list price and in allot of cases if your working with a reputable company comes with a better and longer warranty. I know at Teksavers they have an overnight replacement warranty included with the sale for one year after the equipment is purchased.

If your company requires a Smartnet contract these can be added with no interference from Cisco and can be done without inspections from Cisco. We have never run into a case where a smartnet could not be written on an eligible piece of gear because Cisco had not inspected it beforehand. The only time a smartnet cannot be written is if the equipment already has an active Smartnet contract on it. This subject has almost become as absurd and misconstrued as GM trying to put all of the used cars in the junkyard and not making them available for purchase for savvy buyers trying to save money.

We have just returned from the annual United Network Equipment Dealers Association (UNEDA) meeting in Las Vegas. Network Equipment dealers from across the globe met to discuss issues facing the network equipment market. Issues such as counterfeit equipment, and the validity of the used market.
UNEDA is an association consisting of over 300 network equipment dealers. The main topic of discussion at this years meeting was combating Cisco and their public campaign against the used equipment market. Cisco has been very public about what they call "the gray market" of used cisco equipment. Cisco is attempting to sway its' customers away from purchasing used equipment by claiming that used equipment is not safe, doesn't work, and is risky.

UNEDA members disagree on these points and in fact have more and more customers coming back to them. UNEDA dealers often offer better warranties and faster delivery than what Cisco can provide.

Teksavers will be involved in the anti-counterfeit taskforce being formed by UNEDA and will be on the front lines in the attempts to keep countefeit Cisco equipment from entering the market. We invite Cisco to join us as their efforts can be of great value to the market.

All in all, we were very pleased with the direction UNEDA is going in and hope that the associations public relations efforts result in better and fair information to our customers.
